Navy Yard 8.5
-
Storehouse 8.5 is a contemporary adaptive infill pavilion in North Charleston, South Carolina designed as a new public-facing entry point within the historic Navy Yard district. Positioned within a dense industrial courtyard and elevated above the floodplain, the project introduces flexible gathering and activation space while responding carefully to the surrounding historic structures, circulation patterns, and waterfront context.
-
The project required balancing a contemporary architectural expression with the historic character of the Navy Yard district. The design needed to establish a visible sense of arrival and activate the courtyard environment while remaining deferential to the surrounding industrial buildings, preserving historic sightlines, and accommodating floodplain requirements without compromising accessibility or public engagement.
