Education Building

The new Youth Villages Education Building is a 40,000 SF facility dedicated to learning and therapy. The administration & faculty are now equipped with state-of-the-art resources to accommodate the educational needs on campus.
The building blends the indoors and outdoors with covered breezeways and large expanses of glass facades. The warmth of the wood overhead, the orientation of classrooms to Lake Annewakee, and the relationship of programmatic elements are all centered on student wellbeing.

The mountainous terrain at the Youth Villages Inner Harbour Campus, and the views of the lake created fantastic design opportunities. The client wanted all 18 classrooms to have a view of the lake. To achieve this, a lengthy building was designed that mimicked the adjacent lake shore.

Responding to the shoreline, and embedded into the side of an embankment; the building accommodates 18 classroom views of the lake, while preserving views from the residential cottages that are positioned at the top of the hill.
